This Heritage Day, Breco Seafoods is challenging South Africans to change the way they seafood and put their favourite seafood recipes on the braai.
Whether you're a seafood lover, home cook, aspiring food influencer or chef school student, we want to see your best seafood braai creation.
Three prizes are up for grabs: R5,000 cash, R2,500 cash and a R2,000 Breco Seafoods hamper.
Your recipe could also be featured in our South Africa's Favourite Seafood Braai recipe collection.

Here's how to get it into the competition:
Create
Create your favourite seafood recipe for the braai - traditional, modern, proudly South African or uniquely your own.
Seafood must be the star, whether you're using fish, prawns, calamari, mussels or a combination.
Capture
Show us what you've made!
Cook your creation and take a clear photo or short video of your finished dish.
We want to see the real thing from your real kitchen, your real braai and your own recipe.
Submit
Complete the online entry form and submit:
- Your original seafood braai recipe
- Your recipe name
- A list of ingredients and quantities
- Simple preparation and cooking instructions
- A short personal story about your recipe
- A clear photo or short video of your finished dish
People's Choice
Your recipe could also win the People's Choice prize!
Once entries have closed and eligible recipes have been checked, they will be published on the Breco Seafoods website. From 25–29 September, the public can vote for their favourite recipe.
The recipe receiving the most valid public votes will win the People's Choice prize: a R2,000 Breco Seafoods hamper.
Please note: People's Choice voting is separate from the judging process. The First Prize and Runner-up are selected by the judging panel, not by public vote.
Make it yours
We want recipes that come from real people, real kitchens and real braais.
AI tools may be used for spelling, grammar or formatting, but your recipe, idea and cooking concept must be your own. Wholly AI generated recipes are not encouraged.
To help us see the person behind the recipe, tell us a little about it:
- What makes this recipe yours? Tell us in 50–100 words.
- Is it a family favourite? A recipe you created yourself? Inspired by your culture or travels? A new take on a traditional braai? Tell us the story.
- Your recipe will be judged on creativity and originality, suitability for the braai, taste and ingredient appeal, presentation and your personal story/authenticity.
A photo or video of the actual finished dish is required. Stock images, AI-generated images or images that do not represent the submitted recipe will not be accepted.
One entry per person
- Only one entry is permitted per person.
- Multiple entries submitted by the same person will be disqualified, and only the first valid entry received will be considered.
Competition timeline
- Competition opens: 11 September 2026 at 08:00 SAST
- Entries close: 23 September 2026 at 23:59
- People's Choice voting: 25–29 September 2026
- Winners announced: 1 October 2026
Entries received after the closing date, or entries that do not meet the competition requirements, will not be considered.
What we're looking for
There are no rules about whether your recipe needs to be fancy, complicated or chef-worthy.
We want food that people will actually want to make.
Your recipe could be:
- A quick midweek seafood braai
- A family recipe passed down through generations
- A creative seafood take on a traditional South African braai dish
- A seafood feast for friends
- A simple recipe with a few great ingredients
- A completely new seafood creation
The only essential ingredient is creativity and seafood.
