Braai Fish Tacos
with Charred Corn & Avocado Salsa

SERVES 4

INGREDIENTS

Put a fresh spin on the traditional braai with smoky, flaky fish served in warm tortillas with charred corn and creamy avocado. It’s relaxed, colourful and perfect for everyone to build their own tacos.
For the fish
600 g firm white fish fillets, such as hake, kingklip or dorado
 2 tbsp olive oil
 1 tsp smoked paprika
 1 tsp ground cumin
 ½ tsp garlic powder
 ½ tsp chilli flakes
 1 lime, juiced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
For the salsa
 2 corn cobs
 2 ripe avocados, diced
 250 g cherry tomatoes, quartered
 ½ red onion, finely chopped
 Handful fresh coriander, chopped
 Juice of 1 lime
 Salt and pepper
To serve
812 small flour or corn tortillas
 Lime wedges
 Sour cream or plain yoghurt
 Fresh coriander

METHOD

1

Mix the olive oil, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, chilli flakes and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper.

2

Brush the mixture over the fish and leave to marinate for 15–20 minutes.

3

Place the corn cobs on the braai and cook, turning regularly, until lightly charred all over. Allow to cool slightly, then slice the kernels from the cobs.

4

Combine the corn, avocado, tomatoes, red onion and coriander. Add the lime juice and season to taste.

5

Braai the fish over medium coals for approximately 3–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until cooked through and easily flaked.

6

Warm the tortillas briefly on the braai.

7

Flake the fish into the tortillas and top with the corn and avocado salsa.

8

Serve with lime wedges, sour cream or yoghurt and fresh coriander.
